I am applying for student loan (financial aid) and they wanted to know the date of my divorce, which was so long ago I cannot even remember the year! I have lost my records many years ago also and cannot find site on web that provides this info without joining some service…can anyone help me locate free access to public records?

If you recall the court where you were divorced, the clerk’s office can help you locate copies of your divorce papers. Or if you were represented by an attorney at that time and the attorney or law firm is still around, give them a call to see if they have retained your records. Depending on the state and county where you were divorced, older records may not show up on the internet regardless of the website to which you pay any money.

Pretty simple. Go the Clerk of Court and look up the records. The clerks are generally very helpful.
If you are too far away, then, you’ll probably have to join the service you are trying to avoid…
